IMG_0228This isn’t exactly the best pic… I’m still learning to focus my new camera and this guy/gal was not the easiest to get a picture of. It was VERY camera shy… errr shy of me. It was the first to lead the flock off into the water when I got out of my van. I got a good enough look at it though to see that it had a totally black body, orange-ish bill and a white splotch on it’s chest. I’m clueless as to what it is. It was the only one around too. It was hanging out with American Black ducks which aren’t very black at all and with your regular Mallards and Mottled ducks.

Terri, I had some weird looking ducks too….After looking online, I could never place what, exactly, they were. Bill, over in Scotland, said the Mallards sometimes breed with other ducks and they end up with some weird color variations.

That’s interesting Kae. I looked and looked and couldn’t find a thing. Was actually about to call Beaver Lake Nature center here in B’ville to see if they knew what it was… thanks! It was hanging with the all the other “normal” ducks so it makes sense it’s just a “breeding” issue lol
